Police say they are making further enquiries "as a matter of urgency" after a woman reportedly claimed she was assaulted during a burglary.

A photo, which allegedly shows the injuries sustained last week, has been widely circulated on Facebook.

Officers say prior to this they had not been informed of the incident - but have now made contact with the woman and are trying to establish what happened.

It follows mass discussion on the social media forum about the number of reported burglaries on the Island over recent months and has led to a new group "Isle of Man Breakins" being created.

Police are reminding any victims of crime to report matters to them as soon as possible.
