Colby woman disqualified from driving following collision

Mon, 23 Feb 2015

A Colby woman whose car ended up balanced on a wall after she lost control going around a bend has been disqualified from driving.

31-year-old Lora Small was sentenced at Douglas Courthouse earlier this week after pleading guilty to driving without due care and attention.

The court heard how she was driving her Renault Clio along Shore Road, towards Castletown, on December 23rd last year when she unsuccessfully took the left hand bend.

She travelled into the opposite carriageway hitting an oncoming vehicle and the wall - both cars were written off.

In court Small also pleaded guilty to having no insurance - it had been stopped by the insurer when she missed a direct debit payment.

Her advocate called the insurance issue "unfortunate" and admitted she should have been taking more care in the conditions as it was dark and raining.

Sentencing her Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes described it as a momentary lapse of concentration and fined her £600 in total.

She also endorsed her licence with six penalty points - taking her above the allowed points limit and resulting in Small being disqualified from driving for six months.
