A roofing firm has been accused of health and safety breaches at the Mount Murray Hotel.

The court summons was made out to Roy Michael Cross, trading as Roofcraft, for works contrary to the Health and Safety at Work Act.

The incident in question took place on 7 November 2013 on Mount Murray Hotel and Country Club premises.

On that day, a fire broke out causing extensive damage to the accommodation block at the hotel.

The venue was one of the Island’s premier accommodation and function venues - but has since closed following difficulties with an insurance pay-out.

Company secretary and in-house lawyer Chris Barr said the applicant, Mount Murray Hotel and Country Club Limited, won't be making a comment on the proceedings at this stage.

Deputy High Bailiff Jane Hughes has adjourned the case until 5 May.
