New Zealand health model 'the way forward' says Minister

The Health and Social Care Minister says his recent fact finding trip to New Zealand has reaffirmed his belief that the Island should adopt their model of healthcare.

The Canterbury integrated system has seen a drastic reduction in the average hospital stay time, with admission rates down by a quarter.

Minister Quayle says he's confident it would be the right move, but would first need to be made relevant for the Isle of Man.

Aspects of the Canterbury Model that could prove contentious are the numerous charges for things like GP visits and ambulance call outs; Minister Quayle has assured that this is not part of his plans:
