Psychiatric reports lead to ABH case being dropped

Thu, 20 Aug 2015

Criminal charges against a Douglas man accused of ABH have been withdrawn because the case is no longer "in the public interest".

At Douglas Courthouse earlier this week all charges against 32-year-old Martin Morris were dropped.

He'd previously denied two counts of assault, three of damaging property and three of provoking behaviour from January this year.

Psychiatric reports revealed he suffers from a bipolar disorder and was having a "manic episode with psychotic symptoms" at the time.

The doctor who reviewed him found his mental disorder would have significantly impaired his judgement at the time.

The court heard Mr Morris - who served two months on remand at the prison whilst the case progressed - has now made "significant strides" in getting treatment for his condition.
