Phone theft case dropped against Douglas man

Sat, 22 Aug 2015

A Douglas man who was accused of stealing a mobile phone has had the case against him dropped.

35-year-old Jonathan Mellor had previously denied charges of theft and handling stolen goods which allegedly happened at The Thirsty Pigeon in April.

At Douglas Courthouse this week the prosecutor told the court the main witness in the case had gone off Island for six months and failed to inform police.

He told the court he didn't feel it was in the public interest to adjourn the case saying the public purse should not be "expended" any further.

As a result the charges against Mr Mellor were withdrawn.
