Chief Constable unveils annual report - crime rates up by 9%

The Isle of Man remains the safest place in the British Isles to live, but crime rates have shot up by 9%.

The Chief Constable has unveiled his annual report today amidst a back drop of cutbacks, burglary spikes and recruitment challenges.

In total there were 2,304 recorded crimes, representing the third lowest rate in 30 years.

It’s not all positive reading however with drugs still very much a major issue on Island with significant challenges controlling their flow into the local market.

Gary Roberts outlined why it’s been a particularly challenging year for the constabulary:
