A drink driver who crashed his car into a bollard after an argument in a pub will be sentenced next month.

Douglas man Shawn Bartlett was found by police in the lane behind Marks and Spencer in the early hours of July 5th.

Officers noted he was unsteady on his feet, his eyes were glazed and he smelt of intoxicants - he told them "bang me up. I just want to die".

At Douglas Courthouse the 31-year-old pleaded guilty to the offence - the court heard he'd been involved in an altercation whilst drinking in Quid's Inn before leaving and getting in his car.

Social enquiry reports have been requested - Bartlett will be sentenced on November 17th.
