Clampdown on poachers illegally fishing

Hotels, restaurants and pubs are being urged not to buy fish "via the back door". 

Concerns have been raised that people may start illegally fishing now the river fisheries have closed.

Poachers face heavy fines, and even imprisonment, as do those who handle, sell or buy illegally caught fish.

The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture is now urging people to shop those who try to flout the rules.

Inland fisheries manager Karen Galtress says it's simply not allowed:
