Government workers and politicians to pay for parking spaces

Politicians and government workers will start paying for their car parking spaces from April next year.

The contentious issue came to a head in Tynwald this week when a combined vote saw the motion to start charging pushed through.

It followed a last ditch attempt to pass an amendment so that the policy only applied to Members with separate legislation for civil servants.

A number of politicians made their feelings heard - MLC Geoff Corkish slammed the plans calling them "unworkable" whilst South Douglas MHK Kate Beecroft, who originally brought the motion forward in July, criticised the delay:
