A teenager who raped a 14-year-old "paralytic" schoolgirl on wasteland in Douglas has been handed a three year custodial sentence.

At Douglas Courthouse yesterday the 16-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, sobbed as the court was told he took advantage of the girl's intoxicated and drugged state.

On June 20th the pair - who were in contact on social media - were socialising together listening to music, drinking alcohol and smoking cannabis.

When other friends left the area the teenager dragged the girl - whose identity is also protected - onto the floor where he pulled down her clothing and proceeded to have unprotected sex.

A friend who returned to the scene a few minutes later described how it looked "as if she was asleep" - it was, the court was told, the boy's first experience of sexual intercourse.

Sentencing him Deemster Montgomerie said he'd taken "full advantage" of the girl's vulnerability adding "it is vital you meaningfully address your harmful sexual behaviour".

He sentenced him to three years in a secure unit saying it would be "wholly inappropriate" to suspend the sentence - the boy will also be on the Sex Offenders Register for five years.
