Mental health services for war veterans set to improve

War veterans on the Isle of Man will benefit if relationships strengthen between the Mental Health Service and a Ministry of Defence backed support team.

That's according to the Veterans' Welfare Service - the Douglas based operation administers support to ex-service personnel, many of whom are struggling with the after effects of combat.

It's estimated there are around 6,000 veterans living on the Island - welfare manager Caroline Beattie says communication needs to be improved.

Professionals will meet this month to discuss the issue further - Caroline says tackling the stigma attached to conditions like Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is often the first hurdle:
