Trio jailed after police drug bust operation

Thu, 28 Jan 2016

Three people have been jailed after their Class A drug operation was busted by police last year.

53-year-old Rex Chambers, 22-year-old Jon Paul Fayle and 19-year-old Kimberley Shimmin all received sentences in excess of five years at Douglas Courthouse yesterday.

Officers searched the two men on November 11th after watching them leave the Douglas woman's bedsit - a subsequent search of that recovered thousands of pounds worth of heroin and cocaine.

The trio were arrested and later admitted a string of drugs charges - CCTV showed Shimmin entering her home with a package containing the drugs.

She told police she'd collected it on behalf of Fayle, who was her boyfriend of nine months, and was "naieve and stupid" but refused to name the sender saying she didn't want to be "a grass".

Chambers, a drug addict from Ramsey, told police he'd visited the couple to collect a quantity of heroin - half of which he'd planned to sell on behalf of an unnamed drug dealer.

His advocate told the court anyone involved with heroin is "exacerbating a supply of misery" - but said he'd only fallen into selling it because of his own "serious addiction".

Fayle's advocate told the court his childhood - "riddled with neglect" - had left the Onchan man a "prime target" for becoming involved in this type of offending.
