New measures to clampdown on faulty vehicles

Police say they're finally able to clampdown on vehicles which aren't roadworthy "head on".

From Monday the Vehicle Defect Ratification Scheme will come into play - it's in a bid to make the Island's roads safer.

Motorists will be given seven days to rectify any faults which are found by officers during a stop check - they then have to present their car or van at a police station to prove it.

Sergeant Steven Lapsley heads up the Roads Policing Unit - he says up until now options have been limited but it's time to make a stand:
