Majority of medical call-outs are for elderly people

Paramedics working on the Island have revealed the majority of their call-outs are to help older people in distress.

The admission was made by members of the Isle of Man Ambulance Service in a new BBC documentary series which aired yesterday.

They were filmed for the Countryside 999 programme which follows rural emergency services across the British Isles.

Paramedic Kerry McShane told the BBC it's to be expected when 20 per cent of people living here are aged 65 or over:
