Trawlerman fined thousands for fishing in closed area

Thu, 17 Mar 2016

An Irish trawler master has been fined £5,000 for illegal fishing.

James McKinley was caught fishing for king scallops in a closed area off the Island’s west coast on Monday.

It's after a satellite tracker fitted to his vessel alerted authorities to his location.

McKinley appeared before the Deputy High Bailiff at Douglas Courthouse yesterday - he was also fined £50 in court costs.
