New psychological therapy to improve mental health care

Wed, 11 May 2016

Four of the Island's mental health professionals have qualified in 'Dialectical Behavioural Therapy'.

DBT is a 'talking therapy' used mainly to treat problems arising from personality disorders - which can cause those with the condition to have a limited range of emotions, attitudes and behaviours causing difficulties with everyday life.

The qualifications focus on prevention and early intervention and should help to reduce the need for more specialist input later on - they also help to improve care for those with mental health problems.
