Pensioner fined for TT one-way error

Wed, 14 Sep 2016

A pensioner has been handed a £350 fine and banned from the roads for driving the wrong way over the Mountain Road during TT.

Philip Bollen of Selbourne Drive in Douglas drove from the Creg-ny-Baa to Kate's Cottage before being stopped by Department of Infrastructure staff in the evening after the first day of racing at this year's event.

The 70-year-old insisted he doesn't follow local news or use social media, so wasn't aware of the temporary one-way system in place on the road.

Following an appearance in court this week, Bollen was handed a one-month driving ban in addition to the fine and ordered to pay £50 costs.

The A18 is temporarily one way from Ramsey to the Creg during TT fortnight to prevent head-on collisions.
