Watterson takes up Speaker of the House of Keys post

Former Home Affairs Minister Juan Watterson has been appointed as Speaker of the House of Keys.

The Rushen MHK was elected by the House this afternoon following the swearing-in ceremony earlier today.

Mr Watterson is the joint longest serving member of the House of Keys, having first been elected in 2006.

The Speaker is responsible for ensuring correct procedure and standing orders are followed during sittings of the House of Keys.
