Advertising warning for Manx businesses

Mon, 10 Oct 2016

Manx businesses are being urged to be careful when receiving phone calls offering to sell advertising space.

The Office of Fair Trading issued the warning after a local company was targetted by fraudsters.

The scam involves offering a business the chance to place an advert in a publication which doesn't exist.

The publication is often for a good cause, such as a local charity or the emergency services.

The OFT is urging anyone who receives such a call not to give out payment details over the phone or be rushed into agreeing to a sale.

More information on what to do if you are affected by a scam can be found on the OFT's website.
