No More Lancaster Delays for Manx Drivers - M6 Bay Gateway Opens

Mon, 31 Oct 2016

A new highway linking the Port of Heysham with the M6 Motorway has opened today.

The £125 million ‘Bay Gateway’ was first mooted in 1948 and despite being shelved in 2010, the UK Government re-opened the scheme and work started just two years ago.

Manx drivers have often faced long delays in Lancaster city traffic when connecting between the Steam Packet’s main UK Port and the Motorway Network.

The 4.8km of dual carriageway includes a footpath and cycleway and a fully remodelled junction 34, with new slip roads, a new bridge over the River Lune and a 600 space park and ride site.
