The Island's fishing authorities are hoping proposed changes to bass fishing laws will attract more visiting anglers.

The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture believes a new set of regulations could boost angling as a sport locally.

The changes would prevent anglers keeping more that one bass per day, using only rod and line to fish for sea bass and only keeping those between 50 and 60 cms long.

Bass cannot be fished for commercially in Manx waters, having been listed as a recreational-only species since 1990.

The Recreational Sea Fishing Regulations 2016 will be laid before this month's sitting of Tynwald.
