The Manx Labour Party is calling for the minimum wage to be raised and the Government to support local businesses who pay a living wage.

A committee is looking into the current minimum rates of pay for Manx workers, and invited feedback from businesses, the public and politicians.

Chairman of the Party - MLC David Cretney - wants to see the minimum wage increased above that of the UK to cancel out the increased cost of living on the Island.

Mr Cretney is also asking for employers who offer a living wage to be given support by the Government, stating this protects low wage earners and the Manx economy.

The Minimum Wage Committee will consider all the submitted evidence with any changes becoming effective in April next year.
