The Department of Infrastructure has revealed more details of its plans to build a temporary horse tram facility at Summerland.

Planning permission is being sought for stables, storage and welfare facilities in the car park area of the Summerland site to replace the Strathallan facility.

The DoI says is had intended to purchase the Strathallan depot from Douglas Borough Council, but an inspection revealed the premises have significant structural issues, including an unsafe front wall.

It's hoped the temporary structure will provide support for the horse trams during their 2017 and 2018 seasons while the long-term future of the service is determined.

Minister Ray Harmer, who revealed the intention to use the Summerland site in Tynwald earlier this week, added that the Strathallan site could be redeveloped in the future if the horse trams are to remain in place long term.
