DEFA issues poultry cooking advice

Mon, 19 Dec 2016

The Island's food authority says following simple rules can help people avoid getting ill from incorrectly cooked poultry over Christmas.

The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture has issued seasonal advice to help those cooking the likes of turkey and chicken over the festive period.

Tips include correctly storing meat before it's cooked, ensuring frozen birds are defrosted fully before cooking and ensuring the meat is thoroughly cooked before it's served.

DEFA says people suffer from food poisoning as a result of poultry which hasn't been prepared properly every year.

A guide on cooking times, thawing meat and other advice can be found on the Government's website.
