Poor return rate for firearms renewals

Fri, 03 Mar 2017

The police are concerned by the poor return rate for applications to renew firearms certificates on the Island.

Those with firearms must complete the renewal every three years, with the deadline for the most recent updates having passed on Tuesday.

Officers are concerned by the amount of forms that remain outstanding, as new licences have to be processed and issued by April 1st.

The team in charge of issuing new licences warns those who submit their renewal form late are risk being prosecuted for unlawful possession.

Anyone needing advice on renewing their licence is urged to contact the firearms team on 631402.
