Island's police support campaign to end FGM

Wed, 08 Mar 2017

The Isle of Man Constabulary is backing a campaign to end Female Genital Mutilation as part of International Women's Day.

The Island's police force says it wants a more inclusive, gender-equal world, and hopes raising awareness of FGM can help achieve that.

Officers warn it's an offence for anyone to carry out, aid, abet, counsel, procure or incite female genital mutilation on the Island, which could lead to a 14-year prison sentence.

International Women's Day, which is today, has been recognised by the United Nations since 1975 to highlight women's rights and gender equality.
