Students from one of the Island's secondary schools have been hearing the pros and cons of updating the Island's abortion laws.

Ramsey MHK Alex Allinson was recently given leave to introduce a private members bill to look at making terminations available to more women on the Island.

The Campaign for Abortion Law Modernisation spoke about abortion reform at Ballakermeen High School's Voltaire Society - which was recently formed to encourage discussion and debate amongst the school's A level students.

It's hoped the move will encourage younger people to contribute to a potential future public consultation on abortion reform.

Few women qualify for abortions under the Island's strict criteria for terminations, forcing the majority to travel off Island.
