Tribunal dismisses sex discrimination case against Constabulary

Wed, 19 Apr 2017

An employment tribunal has dismissed a case of sex discrimination against the Isle of Man Constabulary made by a former officer.

Kerry Best claimed the Manx police force didn't make proper allowances when she was dealing with a disability during her pregnancy.

She also reported not to have been given time to meet with an advocate in her lunch hour to sign documents relating to a house sale.

Mrs Best further alleged of other instances of bullying, and described the Constabulary as not compassionate or sympathetic to family and domestic situations.

However, the tribunal found Mrs Best had waited too long to file her claim, having left the Constabulary in 2015.

She didn't file the claim sooner because she was unaware of Manx employment law, but the tribunal found it was unfair to expect the police to defend claims going back over two years.
