MHK praises Manx community for helping stranded ferry passengers

Wed, 07 Jun 2017

The MHK responsible for tourism on the Island is praising the Manx community for helping those left stranded by ferry disruption.

Hundreds of passengers are expected to be stuck on the Island for an additional two days after last night's crossing to Heysham was cancelled.

Rob Callister thanked churches, community centres and members of the public for opening their doors to those left without accommodation for their extended stay, as well as helping campers affecting by yesterday's heavy rain.

He also revealed a team of 12 staff from the Tourism Department worked to find accommodation for between 150 and 200 passengers that had been due to travel last night.

The Steam Packet Company can't make alternative arrangements for those left stranded until tomorrow evening due to a high volume of bookings over the next 48 hours.
