Treasury considers review into Government's gas deal

Wed, 28 Jun 2017

The Treasury believes it needs to review the tariffs the Manx Government pays for gas.

Treasury member Bill Shimmins revealed in this week's sitting of the House of Keys that a number of Departments and boards are customers of Manx Gas, and pay between 2.74 pence and 10.27 pence per unit.

Mr Shimmins added that each department negotiated their own deal with Manx Gas, but that it now feels like the right time to review the situation.

However, Ayre & Michael MHK Tim Baker urged caution ahead of the review, warning a better deal for Government could lead to price rises for the ordinary consumer.

Manx Gas's regulation agreement is also due for review next year.
