Manx cyclist Mark Cavendish says comments aimed at him and his family on social media are vile and threatening.

The Team Dimension Data cyclist was involved in a crash with world champion Peter Sagan at the Tour de France earlier this week, which resulted in the Slovak rider being disqualified from the race.

The 32-year-old took to Twitter to say everyone is entitled to their opinion, but the vile and threatening comments aimed at him and his family aren't deserved.

Cavendish will also miss the rest of the Tour after suffering a shoulder fracture in the incident.
