An MHK is calling for a Tynwald committee to look at the Island's child protection procedures following reports of historical child abuse.

Tim Baker will ask Tynwald to note with concern reports of historical abuse at Knottfield Children's Home in Douglas, which closed in 1983.

The Ayre & Michael member also wants the Social Affairs Policy Review Committee to investigate whether the current procedures to protect those in care on the Island are adequate.

If approved by Tynwald, Mr Baker hopes the committee will report back to the Manx parliament in March next year.
