Infrastructure Minister Ray Harmer signed the lease allowing the Queen's Pier Restoration Trust to begin work on the structure.

A five-year lease to allow for the restoration of Queen's Pier in Ramsey has been signed.

The Queen's Pier Restoration Trust agreed the deal with the Department of Infrastructure to allow work to go ahead.

The Trust says it's now in a position to accept the promises of help and funding previously offered to ensure the restoration goes ahead.

The organisation had a planning application approved earlier this month, allowing work to begin on the first bay.

The Victorian pier opened in 1886, and previously had a tramway, but the pier has been closed since the 1990s.
