Over 700 truancies during 2016-17 academic year

Over 700 truancies were recorded at the Island's schools during the most recent academic year.

Between September last year and July 21st, 748 sessions were marked as truancies in primary and secondary schools.

Sessions are classed as AM or PM, meaning a total of 374 days of school were missed.

The Department of Education and Children confirmed the figures as part of a Freedom of Information request.
