Ramsey Commissioner wants better infrastructure for electric vehicles

Thu, 10 Aug 2017

A Commissioner for Ramsey is calling for the Isle of Man Government to build an infrastructure for electric vehicles that puts the UK to shame.

Juan McGuinness has written to Infrastructure Minister Ray Harmer following the UK's announcement that it intends to cease the sale of petrol and diesel cars by 2040.

Mr McGuinness is urging the Government to treat this as an opportunity to attract investment and business from across the world.

The Commissioner also believes more support for electric vehicles from central government will allow the Island to reduce its energy consumption.

He adds that the Isle of Man is already behind other parts of the world in developing an infrastructure to support such vehicles, but hopes that Island can be a model for progressive transport for the future.
