More than half of GCSE students secure five A*-C passes

Over half of the Island's GCSE students secured fives grade A* - C results including English and Maths in this year's exams.

56.3% of this year's pupils at Department of Education and Children-run schools achieved the grades, which is down compared to last year but higher than in most previous years.

18% of the entries resulted in A* or A grades, while over two thirds were A* - C,

The average number of GCSE's achieved by each pupil was 8.7, which is down from 9.2 last year.

One pupil secured six A* and five A grades despite having faced a life threatening illness while she was in Year 8.

Meanwhile, King William's College announced 81% of GCSEs sat by its students secured A* - C grades, while two students came within one grade of achieving a clean sweep of 11 A*s.
