Tynwald to consider changes to function of Manx parliament

Mon, 09 Oct 2017

Tynwald will be asked to approve a number of changes to the way the Manx parliament works at this month's sitting.

Speaker of the House of Keys Juan Watterson will present a number of recommendations by the select committee on the functioning of Tynwald.

The proposed changes include ensuring the Government doesn't have a majority in Tynwald and preventing Members of the Legislative Council from serving as Ministers.

The recommendations also feature a new job description for MLCs, as well as calling for a review into the way the Chief Minister is elected.

Tynwald will sit for the first time since the summer recess next week.
