Volunteers, public feedback needed to maintain green lane network

Wed, 29 Nov 2017

The Infrastructure Minister says his Department depends on volunteers to maintain the Island's green lane network.

There are 64 sections of unsurfaced highway on the Island covering a total of 76 miles, which can be used by walkers, cyclists, horse riders and trail bikes.

Ray Harmer told this week's sitting of the House of Keys that his Department relies on feedback from the public about the condition of the lanes as the budget for their maintenance is tight.

The DoI also gets help from volunteers and is looking to engage with more volunteer groups to help maintain the green lane network.

Mr Harmer confirmed work has been carried out in recent years to improve access for horse riders, and that he is looking to include more miles for horses and cycling in the future.
