A group calling for women to have safe and legal access to abortions on the Isle of Man will hold a protest outside Legislative Buildings today.

Handmaids IOM will be appearing on Prospect Hill at lunchtime in protest over a presentation being given to Tynwald by a pro-life group from the UK.

Ramsey MHK Dr Alex Allinson was given leave to introduce a Bill updating the Island's abortion laws earlier this year, which is expected to have its first reading in the House of Keys early next year.

The Handmaids insist the they won't stop until all women are able to undergo safe and legal terminations without travelling off Island.

87% of those who responded to a public consultation about the proposed changes agreed that women should be able to have an abortion up to 14 weeks into their pregnancy.
