Age Concern fears Meals on Wheels users will struggle with changes

The charity that provides the Government-subsidised Meals on Wheels service believes some users will struggle to heat food by other suppliers.

The Department of Health and Social Care is ending its funding of Age Concern Isle of Man's meals service from January next year.

The DHSC has written to those who receive meals from Age Concern to advise of other options on the market, but the charity says both other providers supply frozen food.

Age Concern believes these meals could be difficult for some of the older recipients of the meals to heat properly, resulting in a detrimental effect on their wellbeing.

Age Concern wants to Department to commit to speaking to each older person in receipt of Meals on Wheel individually before the end of the current service.

The charity also believes those who have special dietary needs, such as those who require pureed foods, will see a significant price increase with other suppliers.
