A new £2.2m Shannon class lifeboat is to be given to Peel RNLI two years earlier than expected.

The new vessel will arrive at the station in 2019, after it was initially thought it would arrive in 2021 and will replace the crew’s current Mersey class boat, the Ruby Clery, which celebrated her 25th anniversary earlier this year.

The new lifeboat will offer a faster speed for reaching casualties at sea and is the latest model available to the RNLI.

Last year, Peel launched their Mersey class 12 times, bringing 16 people to safety.
