1 in 3 Manx residents exempt from jury service

Wed, 13 Dec 2017

Over a third of those on the Island's electoral register are jury exempt.

Manx jurors must be aged 18 to 65 and have been ordinarily resident in the British Isles for at least five years since reaching the age of 13.

Of the 61,082 people registered to vote on the Island, 21,555 are exempt from duty.

A resident can be exempt from jury service for a number of reasons, including being part of the Clergy, having a mental disorder or being in the military.
