Treasury Minister faces pension age query

Fri, 15 Dec 2017

Potential pension changes for women born in the 1950s will be discussed in next week's sitting of the House of Keys.

Douglas North MHK David Ashford wants to know if the Manx Treasury is monitoring a Private Members Bill progressing through the UK's House of Commons.

The Bill wants to increase the speed at which the State Pension Age is due to increase, putting it up to 65 next November and 66 by October 2020.

On the Island, women born after December 1953 are currently expected to have a state pension age of 65.

Treasury Minister Alfred Cannan will provide an update when the House sits on Tuesday.
