Manx resident finishes second in SPOTY voting

World Superbike champion Jonathan Rea finished second in the BBC's Sports Personality of the Year vote.
World Superbike champion Jonathan Rea finished second in the BBC's Sports Personality of the Year vote.

Isle of Man resident Jonathan Rea was the runner up at this year's BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards.

The World Superbike champion finished second to Sir Mo Farah in the public vote.

The Department of Education, Sport and Culture had been urging Manx residents to get behind the Northern Irishman, and tweeted after the results that he had done his adopted Island proud.

Rea became the first rider to win the WSB title three years in a row in 2017.
