Manx shops to stop accepting UK round pounds next year

Thu, 21 Dec 2017

Manx retailers will stop accepting UK round pound coins next year.

Many local shops have continued to accept the old-style pounds, despite them having not been legal tender in the UK since October.

However, the Treasury says the coins are being taken out of circulation faster than anticipated, meaning it won't be necessary to keep accepting them on the Island indefinitely.

Only the new 12-sided UK pound coin will be accepted after February 28th 2018, as well as locally-issued pound coins and notes.

Manx residents are also being urged to return any remaining UK round pounds to their bank as soon as possible.
