Talks held over Onchan vandalism

Fri, 12 Jan 2018

Talks have taken place between Onchan District Commissioners, the police and MHKs to find a way to crack down on vandalism in the area.

Onchan has had an ongoing problem with youths causing damage in the village in recent months.

MHK Rob Callister revealed the meeting, which was arranged by his constituency colleague Julie Edge, discussed greater involvement of police in the village as well as input from social services as those involved are under 14.

Mr Callister says it's difficult to prosecute someone aged under 14 for a non-serious crime, which some children have been under pressure to join these groups.

The MHK admits it isn't a straightforward problem to fix, but work is being done to find a solution.
