Government seeks public's views on car tax

Fri, 19 Jan 2018

The Manx Government wants to hear the public's view on road tax.

The Department of Infrastructure has launched a public consultation on the future of vehicle excise duty.

The DoI has published a questionnaire to gauge public opinion, which includes questions about charging more for older cars, congestion charges and lower tax for electric vehicles.

The survey also asks whether visitors should have to pay for a short-term vehicle licence while using Manx roads, and whether tax should be based on mileage rather than engine size.

Over 70,000 are taxed in the Isle of Man, generating around £13m for the Department to maintain the 683-mile roads network.

The questionnaire and full details of the consultation can be found on the Government's website. Responses can be made until March 2nd.
