Port Erin rates increase by almost 5%

Fri, 26 Jan 2018

Port Erin Commissioners will be increasing its rate by almost 5% for the 2018-19 financial year.

The local authority has announced ratepayers will pay 302p in the pound from April - a 4.86% rise on the current amount.

The board says it's held the rate for the last few years, but the increase is now necessary due to rising costs.

The Commissioners hope this year's budget will allow them to pursue a number of schemes in the area, including children's play areas, decorative street lighting and beach activities.

The authority is also working on collaborative projects which could have save costs in the future.

The rate increase will equate to an extra £18.86 to a demand of £1,000.
