DEFA reminds fishing vessel owners to stick to licence conditions

Thu, 08 Feb 2018

The Island's fishing authority has written to the owner of every vessel registered in the Isle of Man to warn them they'll have their licences suspended if they breach its conditions.

The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture recently announced it's lifting the requirement for vessels to report for a daily catch inspection at a Manx port.

DEFA says any vessel suspected of cheating by under-declaring their catch of other breaches of legislation won't be allowed to continue fishing in Manx waters.

The team has been established to monitor all vessels' activity on a daily basis and develop a system to identify discrepancies.

The Department confirmed a number of owners have already been contacted to advise that anomalies have been spotted in their reporting.
